Vaginoplasty, also known as “vaginal rejuvenation” or “vagina tightening” surgery, is a group of cosmetic procedures designed to tighten the vagina, particularly after childbirth. While non-surgical alternatives such as heating tissues with radiofrequency waves or lasers may be less effective, patients with significant laxity may not see significant improvement and may be better candidates for surgical tightening with vaginoplasty.
Vaginoplasty has gained popularity in Turkey in recent years. It is important to discuss the benefits and risks of any surgical procedure with a qualified healthcare professional before making a decision.

Why would patients want vaginoplasty ?

After giving birth, women can experience vagina laxity as a results of stretching of tissues and muscles. And that may cause the tampon to fall, and the lack of tone can lead to sexual disfunction.

Vaginoplasty procedure

As a preparation for the surgery, the patient may need to do bowl prep prior to surgery. The surgeon will discuss the patients needs and expectations before determining the changes to perform.

While patient is under general anesthesia, the surgeon will bring up the separated muscles together all along the vaginal canal. And will remove any excess tissues like the mucosa skin from the backside of the vagina. Afterward, the surgeon will close the tissues with strong sutures, then stitch the mucosa skin closed. If there is some extra external skin, the surgeon will remove it for more aesthetic result.

Recovery after vaginoplasty

The patient will need one to two weeks off work, during which she should have plenty of rest. Deep ache may occur for the first few days, which can be relieved with some painkiller and antibiotics.

The patient must avoid intercourse and tampon for 8 weeks. Some patients may need to use dilators depending on the amount of tightening performed.

Other vaginal rejuvenation procedures

  • Labiaplasty : the procedure aims to reduce the labia minora so that they don’t hang below labia majora.
  • Clitoral hood reduction : generally performed along with labiaplasty to improve the balance of female genitalia appearance.
  • labia majoraplasty : to reduce the size of the outer, hair-bearing labia majora. People with large hanging labia majora can feel discomfort during some activities such as cycling.
  • Monsplasty : to reduce the amount of fatty tissue and/or skin of the mons that may be embarrassing while wearing tight pants.
